Tolstoy was talking about families when he wrote about unhappy people, but it could have easily applied to moving from an old PC to a new one. Each of us is unhappy in our own way.

Dory Devlin has a good summary of the basics in her post on moving your PC. I’ll try and share a bit of some of the specific things that have worked for me and might work for you. I just moved from an old Windows XP to a new Vista machine (yes, I know—had I moved to a Mac things would be perfect by now, but I’d have nothing to write about).

Company offers free boxes - Michigan

 Company offers free boxes to get some people moving

Greater Michigan Movers, 5353 E. Paradise Road, recently began a program that gives free boxes to those who might have difficulty affording the cost of moving. TRMI Inc., 100 Hill Brady Road, and other local factories and stores donate boxes to Greater Michigan. The moving company, in turn, donates those boxes to customers 55 and older as well as current and former members of the military. This is in addition to a 10 percent senior and military discount for moving services.
